A Dynamic Presentation on Personal Safety
What would you do if you were physically attacked?
In one dynamic session, learn how to handle the ultimate "what if". Debra deWaal, a former Calgary Police Officer, will share her
police and personal experiences in an informative, high energy and humorous way. This session will teach you how to safely prevent
and manage any potentially dangerous situation.
Learning Objectives
-To acknowledge that even though police/parents/schools have responsibilities to ensure teen's safety, they still have a responsibility to make wise choices to prevent putting themselves in harm's way.
-To explore what participants believe is happening in our society regarding to crime.
-To explore the critical differences in safely responding to personal crimes verses property crimes.
-To discuss what participants must and must not do if faced in a violent situation whether at school, in transit or at home.
-To allow participants an opportunity to create their own personal safety plans.
-To debrief safe practices after reviewing a case study of how others have handled or not handled violent crime.
-To give participants some practical tools to ensure their safety both mentally and physically.
-Participants will leave this session confident that they can safely manage a potentially dangerous situation.
-Suitable for ages 12 and up.
